The year-long celebration of our 200th Year of developing, preserving and protecting our community continues!

We join the world in honoring our Earth!  We will commemorate this special year by encouraging local youth to join us planting our state tree on the Courthouse lawn!  A Tulip Poplar tree will be planted on the Daviess County Courthouse Lawn near 3rd and Frederica Streets in Downtown Owensboro.  The Tulip Poplar tree, which was plentiful in the area, was often called “The Log Cabin Tree”, because they grew tall, straight and strong, and were used to build cabins and barns for the early settlers of our region.

The celebration will continue as we go inside the Courthouse Lobby for the special unveiling of a portrait of Joseph Hamilton Daveiss, of whom our county is named, (even though we changed the spelling to “Daviess”!)

Refreshments will be provided to participants in this FREE community event!
